SHAMIL BANK OF YEMEN & BAHRAIN CONCLUSION OF THE SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAM

The Shamil Bank of Yemen & Bahrain in cooperation with Western Union’s Charitable Society celebrated on Wednesday 20 February 2013 the conclusion of the Second Social Welfare Program in Yemen, which included nine social plans, thus making the total cost of the first and second social welfare programs US dollars 400,000.


Mr. Ahmed Bazara, Chairman, Board of Directors, SBYB explained that the social welfare programs carried out by the bank included nine plans, out of which is a youth training project targeting 103 young men and women. Another project focused on computer skills targeting 93 women in cooperation with Soul Development Organization. One project dealt with English language training and computer skills. There were also programs for human resource development through Al Rahma Society for Human Development targeting 222 male and female orphan students.
The Program included the training of 20 orphans on handicrafts and light industries in cooperation with the Orphan Development Society. Another project in cooperation with Yemenat for Woman and Child Training targeted 100 young women in English Language and secretarial work diploma. One training program dealt with income yielding crafts and enterprises such as tailoring, hairdressing, administration skills and driving.
Mr. Bazara pointed out that the social welfare program adopted by the bank in cooperation with Western Union’s Charitable Society is a result of a strong belief in the importance of the sustainable development of society and a reflection of the two companies’ vision in support of economic development and fulfilling social responsibility towards society.
The Program, Mr. Bazara stated, aims at supporting low income people and their families enabling them to be productive and innovative as well as help others. The Program also aims at supporting women and young orphans socially to enable them to participate actively in society, in addition to training them in accordance with the needs of the labor market in coordination with specialized institutions and highly competent specialists. On the other hand, the Program helps in eliminating illiteracy among males and females in Yemeni society, alleviating the suffering of orphans and narrowing the gap of IT skills, over and above participating in the development and modernization of this sector in Yemen. The Program also aims at youth training in support of economic development, providing as much as possible economic security and self independence to the members of society and creating strong ties between society and private sector companies, local NGO’s, academic institutions and public authorities.
